3 Kinds Of Construction Waste And How To Handle Them
ShareIf you are going to do some remodeling work on your house, there are some things that you need to worry about. One of the biggest is what are you going to do with all the waste. Not only is there the waste from the demo work that you are going to have to do in order to get ready, but you also have the waste from putting in all the new materials. So, when it comes to disposing of it all, what can you do? Well, that really depends on certain things.
Lead Paint
If your house has paint that is several decades old, the likelihood of having lead paint is high. Dust and flakes from lead paint can lead to health problems, especially in young children who are still developing. You may not have problems if you have layers of newer paint on it, but you still might not want to take the risk. In that case, you may want to contact an expert and have them do some remediation work for you. That will keep the lead paint out of your house and out of places where it could cause damage.
General Waste
When you are dealing with general waste, like bits of insulation, pieces of drywall, and wrappers, you can't put those out for your normal garbage pickup. Most municipalities won't pick it up. The easiest way for you to handle it is to rent a dumpster. You can just toss everything into the dumpster as you get it, and when the dumpster is full, the rental company will come in and pick up the dumpster and then bring you a new one. They will also handle disposing of all that rubbish so that you don't have to figure out where it goes.
Cabinets/Fixtures
If you have cabinets and fixtures that you have been able to remove cleanly and they are still in good shape, there are ways that you can deal with those, other than just throwing them away. You can donate them to a thrift shop or to a salvage shop. Those stores will be able to sell those things to people who need them and take the money and can continue to do their good work.
Remodeling your house can be an adventure. It will also generate a lot of waste. You want to make sure that you know how to handle it all.
