If you want to hire a dumpster to get rid of some junk, then you need to decide which kind and size to choose. This isn't always easy if you haven't done this before. It helps to ask yourself the following questions before talking to your dumpster rental company. They can then help you make the right decisions. What do you need to know?

1. Why Do You Need a Dumpster?

People hire dumpsters for different reasons. Some use them to declutter; others want to remove materials after a remodeling or construction project. If you want advice on which dumpster to hire, then it helps to talk to the rentals company about what you're doing. This helps them recommend an appropriate unit size.

For example, if you're simply clearing out a couple of rooms, then a small dumpster might be enough. However, if you're disposing of a lot of large pieces of furniture or rubble after building a home extension, then you need more space.

2. What Will You Put in the Dumpster?

The junk you'll throw in a dumpster could affect the type of unit you hire and its size.  This is often a question of assessing volume and weight. You need to be able to fit in all your junk, ideally in one go. You also need to hire a dumpster that is strong enough to deal with the weight of the things you put in it.

So, if you're just throwing out regular household items, then a general dumpster is generally a good bet. However, if you're landscaping a large yard and have a lot of earth, turf, trees, and shrubs to dispose of, then you need something that can deal with larger volumes at a greater weight. You may need to size up.

3. How Long Will You Need the Dumpster?

When you hire a dumpster, you generally pay a fee to have it delivered and picked up on certain dates. During this period, you fill it. If you aren't done at the end of the hire period, you'll usually have to pay extra to keep it for longer.

It's worth talking to your rentals company to find out their standard hire period. This helps you get the dumpster on your property at the right time. You can then schedule your clear-out for the days you'll have it on site.

If you have more questions, contact local dumpster service companies and ask for their advice.
